ABOUT ME

My name is Katelynn Ryan and while I am an educator first and foremost I have had many different jobs under the sun. I graduated undergrad right in the middle of the Great recession of 2008 and 2009. As a result there was a time period between college and when I started my teaching career that I had to work many different jobs to make ends meet. This really gave me such a unique background and skill set that allows me to support teachers and students in the classroom in a way that is fun, efficient, and effective.

One of the jobs that really honed my organizational skills was working in a mail room. This helped me understand how different organizational systems work together to create efficiency.

I have also worked several jobs in the food service industry which provided a great understanding of not only customer service, but quality control , communication and time management.

I also have an extensive background working with kids of all ages. From teaching dance classes to swim lessons and working with the YMCA's school age programs. I understand how to connect with kids so they will listen.

My work in several leadership positions give me a deep understanding of the needs of organizations in a top down manner. This allows me to see both the details of how classrooms should run within the bigger pictures of state and federal standards and expectations.

I spent several years as a sub before having my own classroom which really helped me to hone in on my classroom management skills. There is nothing to sharpen your skills of managing students like running a 2 hour study hall of 75+ high schoolers in a Cafeteria alone.

My masters of science in education with an emphasis in ELL teaching and learning and a business endorsement in Organizational Management and change leadership give me an extensive toolbox and vast set of resources for how to lead effectively in the classroom and outside of it.

I also have the experience of building programs from the ground up. In my work as a member of my schools leadership teams I have worked on implementing new state testing and creating new schedules, rolling out district initiatives to staff and students, and creating positive school culture systems.

I also have an extensive background in creating quality and engaging online content as I have been a part of opening my districts first fully virtual school. I understand how to instruct effectively online so the programs I have created are grounded in this framework of not only what works best to educate others but how to educate most effectively online.

I have extensive experience leading other teachers in staff meetings, as a blended learning coach, and in teaching online PD for over 7 years. I understand how to make sure teachers walk away from PD with things they can use today and tomorrow, and the next day.

And most of all, I am a teacher in the trenches. I know what teachers need because I need it too. I know what are common mistakes teachers make because I have made them, I know what things teachers struggle with that lead to burnout because I have been there, and I am taking all of my knowledge and skills from my trainings, experiences and failures and sharing them with you.

I believe quality education is the silver bullet for what ails society most and that quality education starts with making sure teachers have everything they need to not only teach their students well but to take care of themselves too!
